How a Public Adjuster Helps After a Collier County Storm
Collier's two defining storms did different damage. Irma made landfall near Marco Island, where the police department reported a 113-knot gust, while Ian's surge reached inland along the Gordon River, Rock Creek and the Cocohatchee River.
FEMA's flood records show how differently those claims closed. Of 2,663 Irma flood claims in Collier County, 1,380 ended without a building payment, and 366 of those carry code 06, not actual flood. Of Ian's 7,813, 1,785 ended without one.
We tie each part of a loss to the storm and to the water or wind behind it, check it against the storm record from NOAA and the National Hurricane Center, and bring it to the policy responsible for it. The flood damage and hurricane damage pages explain each side.

Collier County Communities We Serve, From the Coast to Immokalee
Collier's coast, islands and inland towns each took different storms. Here is how each part of the county fared.
Naples, Pelican Bay and Vanderbilt Beach
Ian's surge along the Gulf and riversThe National Hurricane Center put Ian's inundation at 6 to 9 feet in Naples and 8 to 12 feet in North Naples, and the Naples Pier tide gauge read 6.18 feet above mean higher high water before it was destroyed. NOAA's record traces the surge inland along the Gordon River, Rock Creek and the Cocohatchee and Palm River areas, and on August 4, 2024, high water entered homes in Naples, Pelican Bay and Vanderbilt Beach.
Marco Island and Goodland
Where Irma came ashoreIrma made landfall near Marco Island, where the police department reported a 113-knot gust, and Ian later left a high-water mark 4.7 feet above ground on the island. On August 4, 2024, an estimated 50 to 70 vehicles were stranded on Marco Island's flooded roads and water reached up to 6 inches inside some low-lying buildings. Irma's surge flooded numerous homes in Goodland with major to catastrophic damage.
Everglades City, Chokoloskee and Plantation Island
Irma's highest surgeIrma's surge ran 4 to 8 feet across the county and highest around Chokoloskee and Everglades City, and the National Hurricane Center found that the majority of structures in Everglades City suffered major wind or water damage. Milton's inundation reached about 6 feet in Chokoloskee, and in June 2024, up to 14 inches of rain in 48 hours sent water into homes in Everglades City.
Lely, Golden Gate Estates and Immokalee
Tornadoes and inland windOn January 16, 2022, a tornado left at least minor damage on 20 homes in the Victoria Falls neighborhood, with more damage found in Lely Resort. NOAA logged EF-0 tornadoes on September 25 and 26, 2024, one in Golden Gate Estates and one on Randall Boulevard. Inland, FEMA holds 5,392 Irma assistance registrations from Immokalee and 2,686 from Ian, when gusts near 70 mph were measured in the Immokalee area.

Collier County Losses We Handle
Seven loss types, each tied to what NOAA, FEMA or the National Hurricane Center recorded in Collier County.
Gulf and River Storm Surge
Ian's surge covered almost all of Collier County south and west of Tamiami Trail from Everglades City to the Lee County line, and FEMA rates 7,124 of the county's 7,813 Ian flood claims in zone AE and 218 in zone VE. More on flood damage claims.
Irma's Wind and Roof Damage
Naples Municipal Airport reported a 123-knot gust during Irma, and at least 88 buildings were destroyed county-wide. Wind damage is claimed under the homeowners or windstorm coverage, and a hurricane deductible, as section 627.4025 defines it, applies to hurricane loss.
Rain Flooding

Tornado Damage
A January 16, 2022 tornado left at least minor damage on 20 homes in the Victoria Falls neighborhood, and NOAA logged EF-0 tornadoes in Golden Gate Estates and on Randall Boulevard in late September 2024. Our wind and tornado page has more.
Claims Closed as Not Actual Flood
Of Collier County's 5,184 flood claims with no building payment, 885 carry code 06, not actual flood, meaning the building loss was not paid as a flood.
Homes Needing Repairs to Be Livable
FEMA marked 5,024 of Collier's Irma registrations and 5,334 of its Ian registrations as needing repairs before the home could be lived in.
Two 2024 Hurricanes on One Policy
Helene and Milton both reached Collier County in 2024, so Florida's annual hurricane deductible rule in section 627.701 can decide how much of the second claim is paid.
How a Collier County Claim Moves
Each step builds on the evidence gathered in the one before it.
Name the storm
Under Fla. Stat. 627.70132, a hurricane's date of loss is its landfall, so every Collier claim begins by identifying the storm behind the damage.
Measure the water and the wind
We compare water lines and roof damage with the county's storm record, from Ian's 6 to 9 feet in Naples to Irma's 123-knot gust at the Naples airport.
Build the estimate
We price each repair against the cause that covers it, including code upgrades a first estimate can leave out.
Track the insurer's deadline
Under Fla. Stat. 627.70131, the insurer must pay or deny within 60 days of notice; we keep that date in writing.
The Florida statutes behind these steps sit in the Florida claim rights section of our state page. City-level detail is on our Naples and Marco Island pages, and Lee County owners can use our Lee County page.

A Collier County Claim Came Back Low. Here Is Where to Look.
When a Collier storm payment comes in short, look first at what the insurer decided about the cause, the scope or the timing.
Find the closing reason
Ask for the reason in writing. In FEMA's Collier file, 885 of the 5,184 flood claims with no building payment carry code 06, not actual flood.
Separate the storms
A home hit by Helene and Milton in 2024, or by Irma and Ian years apart, needs each repair dated to one storm before either claim is priced.
Confirm what notice went in
The notice windows for Irma, Ian, Helene and Milton have all run, so an older Collier file depends on what reached the carrier in time.

Collier County FEMA Aid and Insurance: Two Separate Tracks
Individual Assistance from FEMA is a disaster aid program, not insurance. After Ian, FEMA marked 5,334 Collier registrations as needing repairs before the home was habitable, a record kept apart from any flood or homeowners claim.
Reporting damage to FEMA and reporting it to your insurer are two different steps. The hurricane claim page covers the insurance side.
